Wynne breaks ground on £13.5m Ellesmere Port health hub
The contractor is eyeing a September 2024 completion date for the Great Sutton Medical Centre with work beginning this week, four years after original plans were approved.
Wynne Construction will also demolish and replace the existing village hall and Great Sutton Scouts’ hut on the 12-acre site off Old Chester Road in Ellesmere Port.
The 34,000 sq ft Great Sutton Medical Centre will be occupied by the village’s three medical practices, currently operating from a building opposite the site.
The £13.5m NHS Merseyside and Cheshire facility will feature an MRI-scanning and ultrasound unit, a 1,200 sq ft dentist, and 1,500 sq ft pharmacy. A 430 sq ft community meeting room and café will also be provided.
Following their demolition, a new 8,200 sq ft village hall and 5,500 sq ft scout hut will also be delivered.
A dedicated ambulance bay will be provided alongside 145 car-parking spaces for staff, patients, and visitors.
Designed by architect Bundred & Goode, plans for the project were originally approved in 2019, under the condition that the existing village hall and scouts building were kept until construction was completed.
New plans approved last May removed these conditions, following the deterioration and relocation of the scouts’ headquarters.
Other members of the project team include transport consultant David Tucker Associates and landscape architect Martin Hollind.
Dr Andy McAlavey, GP partner at Great Sutton Medical Centre, said: “Our local community deserves the best facilities we can offer to help manage their health issues and improve their wellbeing.
“The range of resources within our buildings will aspire to meet those needs and I look forward to our local community benefiting from this exciting development as soon as possible.”
Laura Marsh, associate director of transformation and partnerships, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, added: “Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System are really pleased to see work commencing on this development for Great Sutton Medical Centre.
“After several years of partnership working between NHS commissioners and the practice to develop agreed plans, we are excited that this development will offer much needed clinical capacity for the population of Great Sutton.”
