Editorial

Sarah Townsend - Editor (on maternity leave)

Sarah is an award-winning business journalist with more than 10 years of experience in property and regeneration. She previously worked at Property Week, the Architects’ Journal and Planning magazine, as well as spending five years in Dubai most recently as senior business correspondent at the UAE’s biggest English language daily newspaper. Sarah joined Place in 2019.

Julia Hatmaker - Deputy editor

Julia is a veteran multimedia journalist, who joined the team in 2021. She comes to Place from the United States, where she worked for nearly a decade at the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper The Patriot-News and its website, PennLive.com. In 2020, she was named one of the 25 rising stars of journalism under the age of 35 by Editor & Publisher, the American newspaper trade magazine.

Dan Whelan - Senior reporter

Dan graduated with a First Class honours degree in journalism from the University of Salford in 2015, before moving to Spain to work as an English language teacher. During his four years in Spain, he worked as a freelance sports reporter, covering football for a variety of publications. Dan joined Place North West in January 2020.

David Thame - Analysis editor

David has more than 30 years’ experience covering the region’s property industry. He is responsible for producing The Subplot and contributing broadly to the editorial management team. The Subplot focuses on getting behind the headlines and examining the issues affecting the industry, as well as the significant role the North West plays in the national economy.

Sales

Dino Moutsopoulos - Commercial director

Dino has more than 21 years of experience in business development and growing brands. Specialising in event sponsorship, Dino has worked both nationally and internationally, winning work with global brands and SMEs alike. Dino is responsible for managing the commercial team as well as the development of new sales and commercial products. He holds an MA in Communications and Public Relations from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Tom Kerr - Sales executive

Tom has four years' experience in the property sector ranging from residential sales and lettings to property development and management. He graduated from the University of Leicester with a degree in Archaeology & Ancient History. Tom is currently studying for a part-time MSc in Real Estate at Liverpool John Moores University.

Products & Events

Kirsty Butcher - Product director

Kirsty, a graduate of the University of Manchester, joined Place in 2015. Her role is to oversee the delivery and development of Place North West and PlaceTech products, projects and operations.

Laura Davies - Event manager

Laura has 10 years of events experience. After graduating from Bangor University, she began her career in event management at a bilingual communications consultancy. In 2013 she moved to Manchester, working in the events team of a B2B publishing company, before joining Place North West and PlaceTech in November 2018.

Annaliese Hesketh - Event assistant

Annaliese graduated with a First Class honours degree in Event Management from Leeds Beckett University. Having worked at an event publicist, she joined Place North West in March 2021 to assist with the busy calendar of conferences and socials.

David Booth - Content producer

David graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Filmmaking and went on to work behind the camera for four years creating videos and digital marketing content for a recycled plastic manufacturing company in Lancashire. David joined in March 2020 to grow the video and content offering at Place North West.

Daniel Coetsee - Content producer

Daniel graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in Film & Animation. He has worked as a freelance videographer in the property, furniture and care industries and various content marketing roles. He joined Place North West in 2022 to further expand Place North West's digital offering.

Office Management & Accounts

Fiona Davies - Office manager

After graduating from Aberystwyth University, Fiona moved to Manchester in 2013 to work as a property legal secretary. With her knowledge and experience gained in the legal sector, she became property manager for a development company based across Saudi Arabia and Manchester. Having joined Place North West in March 2022, Fiona aims to positively assist and support all aspects of the smooth running of our busy office.

Founder

Paul Unger - Publisher

Paul founded regional trade title Place North West in 2007. He started in journalism as a graduate trainee on the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo, rising to become business editor of the Daily Post. After moving into freelance business reporting, he spent six years as North West features writer for Property Week, before creating Place North West and PlaceTech.
