Taylor Wimpey buys Wigan Hovis site

Acting for the bakery group, CBRE’s land and development team has sold a brownfield site in Aspull with capacity for 150 homes to housebuilder Taylor Wimpey for an undisclosed sum.

Outline consent for the redevelopment of the site, which is roughly 1.5 miles north east of Wigan town centre, was secured ahead of the disposal, with the site now set for the development of up to 149 homes.

Approximately 183,500 sq ft of industrial buildings on the 11-acre site will be demolished. Work is due to start on site in autumn this year, with homes to be released for sale from November.

The primary access to the site will be from Wigan Road to the east, via Cale Lane.

Bernadette McQuillan, director at CBRE’s Manchester office, said; “We are delighted to announce the sale of the former bakery site to Taylor Wimpey. Located within an established residential neighbourhood, the site in Aspull is ideally suited for the new development.

“The building of new homes will not only enhance the streetscape in the immediate surrounding area, it will also make a significant contribution to the housing targets for the borough and have positive knock-on effects for the local economy.”
