Plans lodged for Northwich M&S
Rothstone Estates has submitted plans for an 18,000 sq ft food store on Leicester Street, which is to be constructed for the retailer’s return to the town six years after closing its previous store at Barons Quay
Cheshire West and Chester Council agreed terms on a land deal with Rothstone Estates for a 3.5-acre former depot north of Leicester Street earlier this year.
Now, the developer has lodged plans for the store, which will resume M&S’s 111-year association with Northwich.
The store, which will benefit from 157 parking spaces, would be constructed close to an Aldi and a Sainsbury’s. It would provide jobs for 70 people, according to planning documents.
Savills is advising on planning matters and The Harris Partnership is leading on design.

Great News, the Return of a much missed Store in Northwich.

I can’t tell you how sad and depressed I feel looking at this image. Clearly an area with lots of lovely nature, but spoiled by grey tarmac, ugly sheds and some power lines. If I had to live in the suburbs I’d be so much more miserable than I am currently, living in a high density walkable area with a vibrant high street.

Strange that they aren’t picking an empty unit in barons quay

That “lovely nature” is actually an area fenced off from public access, used as a lime dump for a century but too polluted to use for anything significant. Raised paths were built around the edges, and nature has been allowed to reclaim it, but it is far from natural or safe.

The new property is being built on the site of a former council depot, and the unit backs on to the local tip – hardly ‘lovely nature’. A welcome addition to the edge of town

Its just a pity it doesn’t include clothes. We have a lot of food stores and no clothes shops to speak of. Disappointed to say the least. Perhaps they think everyone will be too fat with all the food to need any clothes!

Excellent, the sooner the better.

I think we would benefit more from M& S clothes store we have enough food shops already but no clothes shops

I have missed M&S in Northwich very much so this is welcome. I agree with others that a decent clothes store would be brilliant. I hope one will follow. I don’t blame them for steering away from Baron’s Quay as their stores are souless to say the least
