Oldham housing sites advance

Redrow has exchanged contracts on a 200-home plot between Royton and Shaw, while Cube Homes has submitted plans for a £7m development in Moorside.

The purchase in Cowlishaw by housebuilding giant Redrow represents the sixth site acquisition announced by the firm’s Lancashire division this year.

The site has outline consent, and a reserved matters application has now been lodged by advisor Ryan & May, with a hoped-for start date of early 2022.

Redrow’s site sits off Cocker Mill Lane on the edge of Shaw, and will feature 205 new homes and five acres of green space, which will include a new orchard.

North of Oldham, the 25-acre development will overlook a neighbouring golf course

Claire Jarvis, managing director for Redrow Lancashire, said: “Our plan for Cowlishaw is for the creation of a sustainable and thriving new community that will leave a legacy for future generations.

Jarvis said the emphasis will be on detached homes with private gardens, meeting “the changing priorities of homebuyers post lockdown”. Redrow is also proposing 20 two and three-bedroom affordable properties and will provide contributions to local education provision.

Grasscroft Property acted as development manager and agent for the vendor, having previously secured the outline consent.

Redrow is also closing in on completion at Fox Meadows in Chadderton and continues to work on Saddleworth View at the former Counthill school.

Close to that site, Cube Homes, the private sector arm of housing group Great Places, has now lodged an application for its £7m scheme off Haven Lane, Moorside.

The plans include landscaping and improving the surface water situation from the surrounding land and better managing the surface water on the site to improve and complement the neighbouring area.

Chris Heath, managing director, said: “The development of the land will be a win/win for Oldham as it will bring much-needed housing to the area, while breathing new life into a vacant site for the betterment of the surrounding area.

“We have worked hard with the local authority to ensure that the development will enhance this part of Moorside and create a positive contribution to the town.”
