Cumberland tipped to approve 98 Carlisle houses
Genesis Homes’ plans for a neighbourhood off Crindledyke Lane has received an officer’s seal of approval ahead of next week’s planning committee.
If councillors agree with officers, Genesis would build 98 homes on 12 acres of agricultural land next to another 45-home development. Of those 12 acres, three would be reserved for public open space.
The homes themselves would be a mix of bungalows, semi-detached, detached, and terraced houses. They would have between two and five bedrooms.
Of the 98 houses proposed, 29 would be affordable. These would comprise of two two-bed bungalows, 13 two-bed houses, and 14 three-bed residences. There would be a roughly 50/50 split for these properties, with approximately half being allocated for affordable rent and the others for discounted sale.
All houses would have solar panels integrated into them, with EV charging points for the homeowners’ vehicles built into each plot.
Access to the site would be from Crindledyke Lane, with a second emergency vehicle access from Elliot Drive.
In Genesis Homes’ favour is the fact that Cumberland Council can only demonstrate a 3.84-year housing land supply for Carlisle rather than the required five. This means that applications pertaining to homes are given significant weight in favour of their being granted.
