Glenbrook’s 44-storey Manchester tower clears Gateway 2
With planning permission, funding, and building regulator sign-off, the 364-home scheme on Whitworth Street West is ready to start on site next year.
Glenbrook has secured Gateway 2 approval for the 44-storey Sheppard Robson-designed tower, with Domis lined up to build it.
Regulator approval news of M&G’s involvement in the scheme as forward funder, revealed by Place North West. The project forms part of the investor’s £1bn multi-family fund. M&G will provide equity and debt.
Glenbrook had already secured £17m of patient equity from the Greater Manchester Good Growth Fund to plug a viability gap.
Daniel Roberts, development director at Glenbrook, said: “Health and safety is of paramount importance to Glenbrook and securing Gateway 2 approval represents a crucial milestone for Whitworth Street West, our tallest building to date.
“The approval reflects the significant work undertaken by our team and project partners to progress the scheme through the BSR’s rigorous approvals process. We can now move into the next phase of delivery as we work towards bringing this landmark development forward and making a start on site in 2027.”
He added: “Whitworth Street West will make an important contribution to Manchester’s evolving skyline, providing exceptional new urban homes alongside high-quality amenity space and enhanced public realm. We are excited to continue progressing the scheme and supporting the ongoing regeneration of this part of the city.”
Located in a prominent position next to Deansgate Station and close to the Metrolink, Whitworth Street West will be Glenbrook’s tallest building to date and its fifth residential development in Greater Manchester, following Vox, Trilogy, High Definition, Duet, and Lumina Village.
