Momentum builds for Stalybridge resi

Demolition contractor AJ Kelly & Co has been appointed to clear a site between the town’s rail and bus stations that has planning permission to be transformed into 102 homes.

Bankfoot APAM, acting for landowner the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, secured consent for Stalybridge West in June.

AJ Kelly’s contract will see the site readied for the construction of 44 townhouses and 58 apartments. All of the homes, a mix of one-, two-, and three-bed properties, are to be offered at mid-market rent.

The appointment of a demolition contractor to prepare the site for development has ensured that the scheme continues to head in the right direction following Tameside Council’s planning approval, according to Andy Day, senior director at Bankfoot APAM.

“Appointing AJ Kelly & Co carries real momentum into the next phase of Stalybridge West, coming so soon after we secured full planning consent in June,” he said.

“Their track record gives us confidence the site will be cleared safely and efficiently, setting us up well for construction to follow.”

The development is the first residential phase of Stalybridge’s planned regeneration. It is forecast to deliver around £92m in combined social and economic value, comprising £10.31m of social value and £82m of local economic contribution, according to the project team.

Nicola Elsworth, director of strategic growth at Tameside Council, said: “Bringing brownfield sites like this back into use is central to our approach to regeneration in Tameside.

“Stalybridge West is an example of the ‘good growth’ we aim to drive across the borough – delivery of housing in tandem with infrastructure, jobs and community assets, to retain and attract talent to Tameside. We look forward to construction getting underway.”

Bankfoot APAM is delivering the scheme alongside a specialist design team comprising TODD Architects, LDA Design, and AshtonHale. Learn more by searching for reference number 25/00972/FUL on Tameside Council’s planning portal.
