Are you are interested in helping to assess project designs, complex regeneration schemes, masterplans, design codes and strategic development frameworks?

Places Matter offers an impartial service to designers, developers and local authorities, through Design Review and Building for a Healthy Life. We are the only accredited BfHL assessor in the North West of England. Our public good mission also offers some free Design Reviews to eligible community and arts groups.

We are seeking new Panel Members, for the three-year period beginning in January 2027. Joining the Panel does not guarantee a minimum number of Design Reviews, but you will be remunerated at £350 for each scheme that you do review.

Places Matter has offered Design Review for the last 20-years. Our services are delivered with the support of the RIBA, Design North West and the Design Network.

Applications are welcome from people in all the disciplines of the built environment, but we are particularly keen to hear from those with expertise in the following NPPF good design and placemaking areas:

  • Liveability
  • Climate
  • Nature
  • Movement
  • Public Space
  • Identity

To apply, please email a two-page CV before 12.00 noon on Monday 12 October 2026, to Richard Tracey at [email protected] We encourage applications from all sections of society. For further information, and case studies, please visit: www.designnorthwest.org.uk
