Hilton opens £12m hotel at Old Trafford

Hilton Garden Inn has opened its 150-guestroom hotel at Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Emirates Old Trafford ground.

The hotel was originally due to welcome guests for the Test against South Africa at the start of August.

Galliford Try was the contractor, and has been on site at the £12m project since 2016. The architect on the scheme is Glasgow-based Ica.

Of the 150 bedrooms, 85 overlook the cricket pitch, and 80 have balconies. On match days, some of these rooms will be converted to hospitality boxes.

LCCC funded the development of the hotel through a £5m loan from Greater Manchester Combined Authority, with match funding secured from Trafford Council. The club also raised £3m through a retail bond launch.

Simon Vincent, Hilton’s executive vice president and president for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, said: “Hilton is expanding its portfolio in locations across the UK, and now welcomes guests at some of the country’s leading sports stadiums, including The Stadium of Light, Ageas Bowl, Wembley and now Emirates Old Trafford.

“With more than 450,000 people visiting Emirates Old Trafford each year, we are delighted that Hilton Garden Inn is a central part of this superb destination for sports and entertainment, promising guests a great stay in the city of Manchester.”
