GMCA pledges funding for Bolton’s Crompton Place
The mixed-use regeneration of the former shopping centre will get investment from the £2bn Good Growth Fund, the combined authority has said.
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority met last week to approve more than £400m of loans, grants, and equity investments for a range of projects across the city region, including more than £300m for transport projects.
A report to the GMCA agreed by members also stated that Bolton’s long-awaited Crompton Place development, which will be led by Federated Hermes MEPC, is in line to receive an unspecified amount of financial support from the fund.
The make-up of the development is yet to be fleshed out, but it is expected to comprise hundreds of homes, a hotel, and offices. The GMCA is also planning to set up a mayoral development corporation for Bolton town centre to drive forward Crompton Place and other schemes.
It has been a good couple of weeks for Bolton as far as funding support is concerned. Mayor Andy Burnham also announced just shy of £70m of public investment for a link road at Hulton Park that would bolster Bolton’s bid to host the 2035 Ryder Cup.
A formal application to stage the golf tournament is to be submitted this month, Burnham said.

This is just wrong – an approval for “ an unspecified amount of financial support from the fund”. How can such a decision be made?

Would be great to see a similar redevelopment of Manchester’s Arndale Centre

Arndale Centre is completely old was built in 1981 so think something new like 2026 to 2030 more model future is better than 80s style…not similar in 1980s

I fancy that many of these funding announcements in GM are as much to do with pending local elections rather than any sense of strategically investing in sites.

Again, why can’t somebody just explain when the Bank of Burnham is using taxpayers’ money to provide cheap loans to big developers, and where it is just handing out that money to them for free?
Will the next announcement be that Andy has persuaded another local comedian to chair the MDC/be his new celeb friend?

Why is Federated Hermes MEPC receiving any investment from GMCA??? This does not make any sense and sounds very questionable. Does anybody actually audit this?

Bolton was a busy thriving town, but is now a run down, lack of shops giant housing development. Crompton place will become another waste of time as a hotel will not bring people into the town as there is no shopping or other incentives to encourage them and more housing and no increase in essential services like doctors, schools, hospitals, dentists will cause more suffering for people who are lifelong Boltonians. I no longer bother shopping in Bolton as there are little or no independent shops and other large stores have closed down. I think a rethink is required for Crompton place to become a exciting place for people to enjoy. A swimming pool, a bowling alley, ice skating something people enjoy not more unsuitable flats for families.

Nice one Janet!
“I no longer bother shopping in Bolton”. This is the problem. No one does. So the shops have closed.
They are are going to try something new. Just wish them well.
It won’t affect you anyway, as you don’t bother going.

Why does Andy Burnham keep his nose out of Bolton’s affairs. He his Mayor for Manchester

He is the Mayor of Greater Manchester which, last time I checked, included Bolton.

We do not want a New Golf course for the Over Hulton area . The Hulton Park should be taken over by the National Trust and the big house turned into an Heritage Centre . Like Dunham Massey, Hulton Park has a herd of deer. We need to protect their habitat.

How anyone from Bolton can complain about this is beyond me. The place needs a development like this and the loan will help make that happen. A complete game-changer for the town centre, bringing in people and money. Surely that can only be a good thing!
