Ellesmere Port to get first Lidl

The retailer’s plans to raze the Great Sutton Health Centre off Old Chester Road and erect a 22,300 sq ft store in its place have been approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Designed by One Design Architects, the Lidl will replace the 14,700 sq ft health centre with a store comprising 14,500 sq ft of sales space, and 5,150 sq ft of storage space, in addition to ancillary areas.

The store will be Lidl’s first foray into Ellesmere Port – the nearest Lidl is in Bromborough, more than six miles away.

Parking at the 1.5-acre site will also be increased by an additional 20 spots to 80 spaces.

Plan A Consultants assisted Lidl Great Britain with its application to the local authority, which was first lodged in 2022.

Once complete, shoppers will access the store and car park from Chester Road to the site’s west.

Solar panels are to be mounted across the roof of the store to help with sustainability and power generation, while design choices include a reflective façade facing Old Chester Road.
