Peel to complete 130,000 sq ft Port of Liverpool shed next year
Construction is well underway on the Alexandra Dock warehouse, which is part of a wider Peel Ports initiative to grow the company’s fertiliser storage capacity by more than a million sq ft.
“Our customers are increasingly looking for high-quality storage space located close to our network of ports, and demand continues to grow across a number of critical industries,” said Peel Ports Group’s chief operating officer for ports and marine David Huck.
“While economic conditions remain challenging, the strength of demand, particularly in Liverpool and across the wider North of England and West Coast of Scotland, gives us confidence to make this significant investment.”
The 130,000 sq ft warehouse at the Port of Liverpool has been designed with this in mind. The shed is just one part of a wider initiative to grow Port of Liverpool’s storage capacity by 900,000 sq ft, a feat that will be achieved through repurposing existing stock on the site as well as future builds.

Peel Ports is aggressively progressing its plans, with a proposed 180,400 sq ft warehouse on Alexandra Dock securing permission from Sefton Council in June. You can see that application by searching reference DC/2026/00668 on the council’s planning portal.
Beyond Port of Liverpool, there is a 100,000 sq ft facility in Glasgow also being built as part of the company-wide push to grow capacity by a million sq ft.
Keir Mather, minister for aviation, maritime, and logistics, welcomed the news from Peel Ports.
“Ports are the backbone of the UK economy, ensuring goods and people flow freely in and out of the country,” he said.
“This multi-million pound investment in new warehousing at Liverpool and Glasgow will keep our proud maritime cities competitive, boost local growth and support new, skilled jobs.”
