Hallam Land goes big in Cheshire East with plans for 2,800 homes

A combined 370 acres in Alsager and Crewe are earmarked for 1,100 and 1,700 properties respectively.

Hallam Land, part of Henry Boot, is preparing outline planning applications for 2,800 open market and affordable homes in Cheshire East, which cannot currently demonstrate a statutory five-year housing land supply.

Place North West reported on Hallam’s Crewe intentions last month. Now, a public consultation on the plans has kicked off and will run until 20 October.

The scheme proposes 1,700 homes across 235 acres close to Leighton Hospital – which is the subject of a £1.3bn overhaul – and Bentley Motors.

By providing homes close to major employers, Hallam Land believes the Leighton North project could contribute to Cheshire East Council’s Greater Crewe ambitions.

Adam Masters, senior land and planning manager at Hallam Land, said: “Leighton North is well placed to provide homes for people who work at Leighton Hospital, Bentley Motors and other employers in and around Crewe.

“For key workers at the hospital in particular, the chance to live closer to work could make a real difference. Our ambition goes beyond building homes. We want to create a neighbourhood where people can enjoy green space, reach local facilities and make more journeys on foot or by bike.”

In Alsager, Hallam wants to build 1,100 homes on 135 acres between Hassall Road and Dunnocksfold Road.

Like in Leighton North, the proposals are for a mix of open market and affordable homes alongside greenspaces and active travel routes.

Together, Hallam’s Alsager and Leighton plans would deliver 840 affordable homes.

NJL Consulting and Marrons are advising Hallam Land on both proposals. Racefield Consulting is leading on communications.
