Eric Wright starts on £20m MMU campus hub
Winter 2027 is the target completion date for the project, which will see parts of the All Saints Library converted into a 30,000 sq ft building with IT labs, a student centre, and flexible teaching space with a new façade.
Manchester Metropolitan University has brought Eric Wright Construction on board to deliver the scheme, which was designed by Hawkins\Brown. When the scheme secured planning permission earlier this year, it was valued at £20m.
“Our new campus hub will create a clear and welcoming front door to the University, bringing student‑facing services together in one vibrant, central location,” said Andrew Fallon, chief property officer at MMU.
“By retaining and upgrading the existing structure, the development significantly reduces the environmental impact of the project, supporting the university’s sustainability ambitions while delivering an energy-efficient building that promotes long-term environmental benefits and wellbeing now, and into the future.”
Eric Wright pre-construction director Steve Reid added: “It’s great to be starting on site with our second project for Manchester Metropolitan University, following on from our successful delivery of the Institute of Sport facility.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the All Saints West Campus Hub progress forward. This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering complex refurbishment projects in live educational environments – while also supporting Manchester Metropolitan University’s vision for a modern, connected and sustainable campus.”
While 30,000 sq ft of the former All Saints Library is being repurposed, the remainder of the structure will be demolished to make way for an £80m replacement. This new library would provide 130,000 sq ft across nine storeys. It was also designed by Hawkins\Brown.
Both MMU schemes also include Buro Happold, Turner & Townsend, Hoare Lea, and Planit among the project team.
