Warrington market hall revamp progresses
Styles & Wood has been appointed to deliver a retail fit-out project by Warrington Council as part of its three-year £107m Time Square project, in partnership with Muse Developments.
The £2.8m contract will see Styles & Wood fit-out a 25,500 sq ft market in Time Square, creating space for around 55 retail units for the town’s local businesses. The space will be used as temporary retail accommodation while the town’s market hall is redeveloped as part of the wider regeneration. The six-month project is due to be completed in summer 2017 with the market opening on 29 August.
Once the regeneration of the hall in Bridge Street is finished in 2019, the temporary market will then be converted into a permanent retail space for the town.
Paul Lonsdale, operations director at Styles & Wood said: “The refurbishment of Warrington’s market is a key part of the town’s regeneration initiative and offering this new accommodation will be vital in supporting local businesses when the wider works are ongoing. In addition, the fit-out has been designed to allow for the space to be adapted in the future to suit more permanent needs once the regeneration is complete.”
Andy Farrall, executive director for economic regeneration at Warrington Borough Council, said: “Warrington is forging ahead in its regeneration programme – with Time Square at the vanguard of its city centre ambition.
“The fit-out of the temporary home for the market is representative of the quality of the project. We are delighted to have Styles & Wood on board to undertake this work.”
Also in phase one, Muse Developments has consent for a multi-storey car park, offering space for around 1,200 vehicles across eight-levels. I&H Brown is on site as main contractor with the car park. The overall scheme will provide 40,000 sq ft of retail, 92,000 sq ft of leisure including a cinema and seven family restaurants, a 42,000 sq ft indoor market hall, a 100,000 sq ft council office building, the car park and a new public square.
