The Sovini Group appoints director
James Flannery is heading up the construction and land team at the construction, property, and facilities services company, bringing 35 years of experience to the job.
Having previously held roles at construction firms Balfour Beatty, Tyson, and Thomas Armstrong, Flannery went on to own his own business, Cunard Construction, in 2016.
Having sold his shares of Cunard Construction in 2021, Flannery has now landed as director of construction and land at The Sovini Group. His new role will see him lead the firm’s development framework and overseeing land acquisition.
Flannery will also be responsible for the growth of Sovini Construction, the group’s building arm.
Speaking of his appointment, Flannery said: “I look forward to playing an active part in delivering growth for Sovini Construction and their communities”.
Anita Harrison-Carroll, chief business officer at The Sovini Group, added: “James has wide ranging experience across the construction industry spanning large infrastructure project to housebuilding.
“His understanding of the sector enables him to bring a valuable outlook as we pursue our strategy of deepening and elevating our relationships with our clients”.
The Sovini Group is also made up of Sovini Property Services and Sovini Partnerships, as well as housing providers One Vision Housing and Pine Court Housing Association.
Based in Merseyside, the group is active throughout the North West.
This month, Sovini Property Services has been appointed by Torus as the main contractor to help the housing group manage and maintain its 40,000-home portfolio in a £1.2bn framework.
During the three-year partnership, the contractor will provide responsive and void repairs, cyclical maintenance, estate services, and facilities management for Torus’ properties.
Mike Dale, head of property services and growth at Sovini Property Services, commented: “Like ourselves, Torus is a customer orientated organisation, committed to investing in the communities they work in.”
Margaret Goddard, Torus Group Assets Director, added: “The three-year repairs and maintenance framework has been developed to fulfil the current and future expectations of the group, its tenants, and the Regulator of Social Housing…
“As a framework, it sets the principles for engagement and will be supported by an action plan to ensure delivery and continued progress.”
A great appointment.James is such a motivated person who is always interesting to be involved with. That this in Place North West is quite poignent as a very close friend of ours, Peter Henry, sadly passed away recently. He always scanned for news and would be proud of you Jay.

Congratulations James. Great appointment by Sovini who have someone with the skills, vision and leadership to meet the challenges in social housing including net zero and climate change, building and maintaining affordable and decent healthy homes. You’ve worked your way up and grew up in the same communities you’ll be working for. The understanding that gives is sometimes undervalued. You’ve made a difference and social impact in every organisation from Atom Regeneration through to now. Best Wishes in the new role
