South Ribble approves Longton housing

After a debate lasting an hour and 40 minutes, councillors voted in favour of Story Homes’ 136-home scheme south of Chapel Lane.

South Ribble Council’s concerns about access, traffic, service charges, and wildlife – as well as close to 300 local objections – were not insurmountable as members voted 6-3 in favour of the Longton scheme.

The debate concluded with a plea from vice-chair of the planning committee Cllr Keith Martin for developers to work closer with local communities when drawing up proposals.

The 16.5-acre site in question is allocated for development in the emerging Central Lancashire Local Plan, which is yet to be adopted.

Story’s scheme would provide a mix of one- to six-bed homes, with 48 being affordable.

Story is working with planner Pegasus Group on the plans the professional team also includes Urban Green, e3p, Betts Hydro, CFA, Curtins and Groundtech.

Scheme documents can be viewed on South Ribble’s planning portal with the reference 07/2025/00498/FUL.

More houses!!! Now we will never get a doctor’s appointment.

By Anonymous

@Anonymous 9.46am. Houses aren’t to blame for the inability to get doctors appointments; population growth is. Paradoxically there are more doctors qualifying but they can’t get jobs due to chronic underfunding and unmanageable workloads that makes it increasingly difficult to recruit them into existing practices. That is the system that is broke;more houses are still required.
