Join Place North on 20 October as we take a snapshot of the regional residential scene, highlight exemplar projects that showcase the art of the possible, and get into the nitty gritty around affordable housing delivery.

Rob Chesworth is the head of housing and strategic land at The Crown Estate. The Crown Estate’s portfolio includes a national pipeline of around 60,000 homes across 30+ strategic sites and The Impact Partnership, a 50/50 joint venture with Lendlease. Chesworth’s work spans strategic land promotion, large-scale garden communities and public-private partnership, with a focus on how public and private partners can align capital, policy and ambition to accelerate housing delivery and drive innovation across the sector.
Tim Heatley is the co-founder and director of Capital&Centric. Heatley has delivered many high-profile regeneration projects in partnership with local authorities. He has won prestigious awards such as the UKREiiF Property Personality of the Year for his entrepreneurial approach and social impact. Healtey is leading on the generation of new business and has been responsible for identifying a number of large-scale projects including Weir Mill in Stockport and the Goods Yard in Stoke-on-Trent. He established Regeneration Brainery, assisting those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to get into the property industry.
Joanne Morrison is the North West managing director at Gleeson. Morrison is responsible for driving regional growth and delivering high-quality, affordable homes across the region. With over 20 years of industry experience, she has a proven track record of leadership, business expansion and operational excellence within the UK housebuilding sector.
Cllr Gavin White is the executive member for housing and regeneration at Manchester City Council. White was elected to the council in May 2018, representing Old Moat ward in south Manchester and was re-elected in May 2021, and May 2024. He was a member of the planning committee, and neighbourhoods and environment committee of the city council between 2018-2021 and in May 2021 he joined the executive of the council with the portfolio areas of housing and development, which includes housing management, planning, private rented sector and enforcement, regeneration projects, and investment in district centres, residential growth and strategic housing.
Seb Verity is the head of research at Allsop. Verity focuses on providing market comment and economic intelligence to both the residential and commercial sides of the business, while also being a subject-matter expert in terms of key real estate datasets. He has experience of building and maintaining business-critical databases and maintaining supplier relationships, giving him a unique insight into what happens ‘under the bonnet’ of much of the insight, analytical and advisory outputs in all sectors. He also provides clients with a bespoke research and analytical consultancy service – especially in the ResDev, BTR, Senior Living and PBSA sectors.
Tori Hall is the group director of development management at Brookbanks. Hall has a strong background in project management, land, and planning which plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic development and management of large projects. This position involves creating and implementing short and long-term delivery strategies to guide project-specific growth.
Matt Ollier is a director at Ollier Smurthwaite Architects. Ollier has led a number of high-profile mixed-use developments up to a value of £150m and received a number of national design awards for completed projects. Recent projects from Ollier Smurthwaite Architects include a modern mansion block in Stockport and a farmstead-inspired residential development in Wilmslow.
Sandy Kelly is the interim director of growth and regeneration at Onward Homes. Onward is one of the largest registered providers of social housing based solely in the North West of England, with 35,000 homes across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and Lancashire. The housing association is part of the UK Research and Innovation’s pilot for the £85m Industrial and Digitalising Construction Challenge programme.
