Office refurb set for summer completion

Cert Property has appointed Armitage Construction to begin works on the Northern Quarter’s Hilton House.

Originally designed by Richard Seifart, the 1960s Hilton House was purchased in an off-market deal by Cert Property Group in 2017, and the developer subsequently submitted an application to update and expand the building later that year.

The proposals included a new façade, a 2,250 sq ft extension to the building’s top two floors, and a full refurbishment of the interior, which will be targeted at flexible and co-working SME occupiers. This planning application from Stephenson Studio secured consent in May 2018.

Buttress has since been drafted in to develop detailed designs, and working alongside Sheila Bird Group will undertake a complete refurbishment of the 35,000 sq ft block, including a full re-cladding, with windows replaced with anodised aluminium.

Howard Lord, managing director at Cert Property, said: “Hilton House is a perfect example of the rebellious spirit of the Northern Quarter. We are working with local talent to create a building which captures the Northern Quarter’s rich heritage whilst also recognising that the working world is evolving. The demand for a character office space in the area is high and it is our aim to restore life into buildings like Hilton House to unlock their true potential and deliver new office solutions across the north of England.”

The building is due to complete in summer 2019.

Looks decent, as looking forward to positing something positive… but why this “rebellious spirit” nonsense in the press release? NQ isn’t that sort of place these days (for better and for worse). Why can’t it just be great to see an underwhelming building look better?
