Nobles wins eco-school build contract

Liverpool-based Nobles Construction has beaten 26 contractors to build a new environmentally-friendly All Saints Catholic Primary School in Bootle.

The £4.7m project is set to be completed in spring 2009 and Nobles said it will see the opening of one of the most environmentally compliant and technically advanced education centres in the country.

All Saints forms part of the government's 'Schools for the Future' programme and will aid its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The new 'green' school will generate its own power and be able to conserve energy.

Photovoltaic and solar panels will be installed on its south-facing roof and will be able to produce electricity and hot water for school use, helping the school to cut energy bills and carbon emissions.

Dave Shaw, managing director of Nobles Construction, said: "The design and orientation of the site, the selection of natural materials and use of natural ventilation and daylight have all been designed to maximise energy efficiency. In addition, All Saints will utilise a range of sustainable energy solutions including solar, wind and geothermal, together with water harvesting."
