Housing projects progress at Ellesmere Port

Cheshire West & Chester Council is due to approve Galliford Try’s development of 141 homes on the site of a former greyhound racing track, while Countryside Properties has secured reserved matters consent for 98 homes at Cromwell Road.

Galliford Try Partnerships acquired the greyhound stadium site from Cheshire West & Chester Council in December for £3.65m.

Linden Homes, the residential marketing arm of Galliford Try, submitted a planning application for the 10-acre site off Thornton Road, which has been recommended for approval by the council’s planning committee next week.

Of the 141 homes, there will be a mix of units for open market sale under the Linden Homes North West brand and some affordable homes to be built for Cheshire West & Chester Council.

The council has retained the freehold interest in the site.

Also in Ellesmere Port, Countryside Properties, advised by Nexus Planning, has been granted detailed approval for 98 houses, the first phase of a 350-home scheme at Cromwell Road.

Outline planning permission for the whole development was granted to landowner St Modwen in March 2015. Countryside will deliver the homes on behalf of Sigma Capital.

Nick Whittingham, land director at St Modwen, said: “Having secured outline planning permission for the comprehensive redevelopment of this former industrial brownfield site we are pleased that the first phase of much needed family homes is now going to be delivered. Hopefully this will kick start the regeneration of the wider area and allow subsequent private housing to come forward in the near future.”
