Halton set to approve 479 Widnes homes

Redrow Homes is seeking to create two housing estates off Derby Road, with 428 homes planned on Mill Green Farm and a further 51 homes drawn up for Oak Villa.

Barton Willmore submitted the two separate applications on behalf of the developer, recommended to be approved by Halton Council at its development management committee on Monday.

Despite the council officer’s recommendations, the applications have received a total of 154 objections with concerns raised about the developments’ impact on roads, schools, and GPs.

I-Transport is the scheme’s transport consultant. Also on the project team is landscape architect PGLA and noise consultant E3p.

Mill Green Farm

If approved, 428 houses would be created on the larger 53-acre site at Mill Green Farm off Derby Road in Widnes.

Residents would also be able to access the site from Mill Lane.

There would be a mix of one- to five-bedroom properties provided, featuring: 24 one-, 48 two-, 85 three-, 224 four-, and 47 five-bedroom homes.

Of the 428 homes, 86 would be affordable.

Residents would have access to 882 car parking spaces.

Oak Villa

The remaining 51 properties would be delivered on the adjacent six-acre site at Oak Villa, accessed off Derby Road.

The scheme would feature a mix of detached and semi-detached houses.

There would be two one-, eight two-, two three-, 32 four-, and seven five-bedroom homes created.

Of the 51 homes, 10 would be affordable.

A total of 104 car parking spaces would be available for residents.

Ooo the Nimbys are gonna love this one! Best of luck Redrow

A lot of new houses for Widnes here, which is fair enough, but all looks a bit monotonous happy valley, low-rise, with the main variation being the number of bedrooms.
Redrow seem quite successful at this but wonder if they ever build inner-city high-rise to boost the city centre populations instead of just suburbia.
