Clarion begins assembling project team for 170 Gorton homes
The housing association wants to appoint a designer to draw up plans for the first half of a wider 400-home project that will see 15 sites north and south of Garrett Way redeveloped.
Last autumn, Clarion Housing Association was appointed by Manchester City Council to be its development partner for the next 10 years to deliver affordable housing in Gorton, east of the city centre.
Clarion, whose development arm Latimer is building the 60% affordable, 500-home Brewery Gardens on Manchester’s Great Ducie Street, will invest around £60m in Gorton over the coming years to deliver the 400 homes.
The housing provider is eyeing next April as the date it wants to submit plans for phase one, which will comprise 171 homes – 128 apartments and 43 houses for shared ownership and social rent – across eight plots.
The first site to come forward will be Gorton’s former library, which could accommodate 70 homes.
Clarion is now on the hunt for an architect and civil and structural engineer for the scheme.
