Canopius signs for 13,500 sq ft in Manchester

The insurance firm will leave its current home at WeWork at One St Peter’s Square to take a conventional lease at AEW’s 100 Barbirolli Square down the road.

Canopius Group has signed a 10-year lease on 13,500 sq ft, which will be occupied by its tech and data teams as part of its ongoing UK expansion. The firm will join Koba, Brabners, and Stantec in 100 Barbirolli.

Colliers acted on behalf of Canopius, while Savills advised the landlord, AEW, on the transaction.

Hannah Welch, group premises manager at Canopius, said: “Manchester continues to stand out as one of the UK’s leading growth cities, with an exceptional talent pool and a vibrant business community.

“Securing high-quality space at 100 Barbirolli Square is an exciting milestone for Canopius and reflects our commitment to creating modern, collaborative work environments that support our people and our long-term ambitions. We’re thrilled to be strengthening our presence in such a forward-looking city.”

Paddy Kennedy, practice leader in EMEA flexible workplace advisory at Colliers, added: “This move demonstrates Manchester’s strong appeal for organisations seeking top-tier workspace and exceptional talent.

“100 Barbirolli Square is one of the city’s leading Grade A buildings and a great fit for Canopius’ growth plans. This relocation enables us to support their continued expansion with a real estate strategy aligned to their long-term ambitions, underscoring the sustained strength of the Manchester office market.”

Martin Payne, director of asset management at AEW, said: “We are delighted to welcome Canopius to 100 Barbirolli Square, which is home to some of Manchester’s leading businesses.”
