667,000 sq ft Ellesmere Port shed completes
Contractor Winvic has handed over the mammoth industrial unit, let to Peugeot for the next 15 years, to developer Stoford.
Stoford’s 667,000 sq ft shed at Hooton Park Airfield in Ellesmere Port is the largest single cross-docked warehouse to be built in the North West this year, according to the developer.
The scheme was forward funded by Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust to the tune of £101m and constructed by Winvic on a 38-acre site close to Junction 6 of the M53. The CAT B fit-out, which includes a sprinkler system, heating, lighting, 200,000 sq ft of marshalling ceiling and 100 forklift chargers, cost £25m.
The shed has an EPC A rating and is BREEAM Outstanding accredited.
Stoford joint managing director Dan Gallagher, said: “Ellesmere Port is synonymous with the motor industry and it’s hugely pleasing to have delivered a national distribution facility that will ensure the longevity of the wider Vauxhall site for employment.
“We’ve worked closely with Stellantis to develop this purpose-built unit, which is not only impressive in scale but has market leading sustainability credentials too.”
Jamie Craig, UK director for parts distribution at Stellantis, which owns Peugeot, said: “The new warehouse replaces our temporary home inside the Ellesmere Port manufacturing plant.
“It provides us with state-of-the-art facilities for our employees, and a purpose-built environment in which to increase our future business outlook. The internal blank canvas has been transformed into the largest automotive aftersales warehouse in the UK, catering for all 14 Stellantis brands. Our centrally based location allows us to ship parts to all corners of the UK and Ireland.”
No solar panels on the roof?
This should be mandatory on all new build commercial premises like this.
