Plans lodged for Wrexham Gateway
Working alongside Transport for Wales, the county council has now put forward proposals for a commercial office building, a brewery, and a taproom to the 6.7-acre area surrounding the town’s railway station.
Wrexham General Station is the scheme’s focal point, with the local authority hoping that redevelopment of the station and enhancing transport provision will support sustainable growth.
The hybrid application combines a pitch to change of use of the former Jewson’s Warehouse to a brewery and the change of use of the Cambrian Sheds to a museum and taproom, all under the Wrexham Lager brand.
Outline permission is sought for a commercial office building, surrounded by a public plaza outside the station entrance, and a pedestrian footbridge over the railway track from the north end of the site.
A planning statement by Spawforths states that the opportunity is also to create a landmark gateway building for the Racecourse stadium, home of Wrexham FC, and Wrexham University’s campus.
SHR Studio Architecture is behind the designs of the gateway.

The proposal requires the demolition of a former Girl Guides facility and the Wrexham District Scouts building.
