Persimmon buys land in Kendal with eye on 143 homes
The housebuilder’s Charles Church brand has exchanged contracts to purchase a site allocated for development in the South Lakeland local plan.
Proposals are now being put together to build 143 new homes on a site off Windermere Road, High Sparrowmire, near the Lake District National Park.
With the purchase complete, Charles Church has confirmed a planning application is now being prepared for submission to Westmorland and Furness Council.
If approved, the scheme will deliver a mix of one- to five-bedroom properties with 35% of the homes likely to be designated as affordable-rent or discount to market value, according to the developer.
Andrew Laing, land and planning director, Charles Church Lancashire said: “We’re delighted to have secured this opportunity to move forward with our plans for new homes in Kendal.
“This proposal will make a significant contribution towards housing needs in Cumbria and deliver high quality new homes with significant open space for residents and the wider community to enjoy.”
Oh marvellous. Great news about even more unffordable housing then. Traffic is at a standstill most of the time anyway. Local hospital shuts at 10 pm. GP surgeries are already oversubscribed and just where will the oncomong kids go to one of only 3 schools on Kendal then? Thanks a lot. We dont’s want nor need any more unaffordable housing here
