Feilden Clegg Bradley wins University of Liverpool brief
The Manchester-based practice has won its first piece of work in Liverpool, after being selected by one of the city’s universities to develop its 2026 estate strategy into a masterplan to guide £800m of investment.
A statement from the university to Place North West said: “The University of Liverpool is pleased to announce that, following a procurement process, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios have been selected as architects to develop its estate strategy into a masterplan.
“The estate strategy and masterplan will be a key underpinning pillar to the University’s Strategy 2026, supporting the institution’s ambitious aims, as well as providing a framework for investment over the next ten years and beyond.”
Earlier this year the university invited 10 practices to bid for the project, including local studio K2 in partnership with Reiach & Hall, BDP, Stride Treglown and Fairhursts Design Group.
The university launched its 2026 Strategy in April 2016, laying out “visions and aspirations” for the next decade of growth.
The strategy outlined an aim for the university to be world-leading in specific research areas, such as advanced materials, infectious disease and personalised health.
Specific use of the university’s estate in delivering this plan is yet to be defined, and FCB is now expected to advise on the most efficient use of the university’s central campus in Liverpool, including whether to demolish, refurbish or develop new-build facilities.
The university is understood to have allocated £1bn over 20 years to invest into its estate.
