Bids open for Blackpool Airport architect
Blackpool Council is looking to appoint an architectural consultant to undertake feasibility studies for the next phase of development at [pin url=”https://explore.deetu.com/pnw/#blackpool-airport-enterprise-zone”][/pin]Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.
The £1m contract would see the successful architect deliver a range of projects under a framework agreement.
Blackpool Council reacquired Blackpool Airport in September 2017, via its ownership of Blackpool Airport Operations and Blackpool Airport Property.
The architect will initially be required to do a number of short feasibility studies, working alongside the airport team, and produce concept designs for new and replacement hangars, as well as determine the best locations for new airport parking aprons. These projects are part of the long-term plan to relocate the airport’s faciltiies, as outlined in the Enterprise Zone masterplan.
The initial phase of study and design work will build on work completed by Mott McDonald and York Aviation in 2018.
According to Blackpool Council, there may be additional work as and when required, as part of a framework agreement.
The contract is expected to start on 1 December 2019, with the feasibility studies and concept designs required by 31 March 2020.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council and chair of Blackpool Airport said: “The appointment of an architectural consultancy will be a significant step closer towards seeing next generation development on site. The studies will help to inform the airport team in decision making and prioritisation of potential future investment at the airport. The airport is in urgent need of regeneration and it is important that we get it right from the outset, supporting the existing businesses on the airport whilst improving and building a strong and sustainable future in aviation and securing long term, skilled jobs for the local community.”
