£25m boost for Bury Interchange
A redeveloped transport hub for the town and plans for residential development on neighbouring land will receive a slug of funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
The GMCA’s Bee Network committee has approved £25.1m of City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement funding for Bury Interchange.
The scheme forms an integral part of Bury Council’s town centre ambitions and will make the bus and tram station more accessible and” bring the standard of Bury’s transport offer in line with that of the wider city region,” according to a report to the committee.
The £25.1m will be spent on delivering the project’s first phase, featuring a new pedestrian footbridge and access improvements, which received planning permission last year.
Additionally, the funding will go towards detailed design work for phase two, which includes a residential development.
The plan for residential, which will be affordable, is inspired by the success of a similar scheme at Stockport Interchange, the report adds.
Not just the residential bit that has been inspired by Stockport Interchange – that overbridge looks like its been bolted together using leftover parts from the walkway between Stockport’s interchange and railway station!

Why spend all this money on a bridge and cycle lanes all positioned around the interchange and the college improve the roads and sack the incompetent people in the road planning department it is absolutely shambolic there is more bottlenecks than Ben shaws and more congestion than an army with flu

Hopefully Bury will keep moving forward and turn Angouleme Way into a single carriageway road as they identified a few years back. It’s an awful line of severance for communities to the south of the town centre.
And they seriously need to look at adding cycleways and perhaps even permanent bus lanes to the A56.

From the picture looks a steep incline not good for old people, disabled people, or icy weather even wet weather, unless there is an alternative route.

What an absolute waste of public money ! The only people who will ever use this monstrosity are the people working in the town hall who want to nip out at lunchtime to grab a steak bake as it will probably take at least one minute of their already short walk ! I suppose it will give them more time to sit in their council offices to plan how to waste even more money ?!
They want to use the money to replace our absolutely shattered local roads, rather than spend it on pointless, useless vanity projects that absolutely no one wants or needs !!

Great news for bury but how about getting Metrolink parking in bury as it’s practically impossible to park for local residents in Radcliffe and Whitefield who want to use the Metrolink during the week to park at Radcliffe and whitefield

This looks great. Similar to the bridge at Stockport which isn’t steep or difficult to use for people with disabilities (have experience of using it with wheelchair and it’s great)
The current lift at Bury is an utter nightmare and makes the tram almost unusable for people with mobility issues.
Correct thing investing in public transport making it as easy and accessible as possible. All the comments on how this isn’t needed and money should be spent stopping congestion – it’s you causing the congestion by insisting on driving everywhere all the time
