Work begins on second Chester Lidl
Braithwaite Group will lead the construction of the retailer’s second store in the city and is set for an early 2026 finish.
The Lidl will emerge from an amalgamation of two existing units at Caldy Valley Retail Park, the 9,950 sq ft B&M and the 7,500 sq ft Rightway stores. Planning permission to do so was granted in April 2024.
Found at the three-acre retail park, the Lidl will span 14,595 sq ft and offer customer toilets and baby change facilities.
Front and rear extensions and a reconfiguration of the car park to reduce the number of spaces from 206 to 170 will also be undertaken.
Around 40 local staff are set to be employed by the store.

Caldy Valley Retail Park is owned by LaSalle Business Management and comprises 35,000 sq ft across its four units, with Lidl set to join neighbours Halfords and Pets at Home at the site.
Stuart Jardine, regional head of property, Lidl GB, said: “We’ve seen demand across Cheshire continue to grow.
“We’re thrilled to be constructing our second store in the city and delivering convenience to more customers. It has been a real team effort behind the scenes to reach this milestone, and we can’t wait to open our doors to new Lidl fans.”
Plan A, One Design Architects, SCP, Beam Consulting, and Landscape Ecology have all been on the project team.
I appreciate these things are built to a standard design, but are the architects really called `One Design Architects’??

Halfords appears to have closed their store, and only Pets@Home remains. Not sure if that means Lidl are taking 3 units rather than two. This side of Chester hasn’t had a lot of choice over the years even as the housing provision has increased. It will do very well, as people spread their shopping with the adjacent Sainsbury’s store.

Artist impression is lovely, except that the two shops are part of a four part terrace and land looks nothing like that

Will there be a bus service to this new venue? Do we really need another lidl when there r two fairly close to each other near the little owl and Sealand road shops. Can’t say I think much of lidl as opposed to Tesco and Morriston. Aldi is also similar but better than lidl.
