Lidl gets approval for 15,000 sq ft Chester store

The grocer snapped up the freehold for the 35,000 sq ft Caldy Valley Retail Park off Valley Road in Great Boughton several years ago, and will convert units three and four into a supermarket.

Those units were previously occupied by Rightway and B&M. The other two units will remain occupied by a 10,000 sq ft Pets at Home and 7,500 sq ft Halfords.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has granted permission for the development on the three-acre site in a delegated decision made by the planning department.

Front and rear extensions are planned along with a reconfiguration of the car park which will see a reduction in the number of spaces from 206 to 185.

A Section 106 agreement to improve cycling facilities has been agreed as a condition of approval.

The planning officer report states that a sequential test has been carried out and found the site to be acceptable compared to others available and although this will change the original intention of the retail park, the development still retains a retail offer.

The project team features Plan A, One Design Architects, SCP, Beam Consulting, and Landscape Ecology.
