Warden wins £8m Matrix Park hospital contract

The Preston-based construction firm has been selected to build a 24,000 sq ft hospital at the industrial park at Buckshaw Village in Chorley and is due to start work next month.

WW Medical Facilities won planning approval for the scheme earlier this year. The project includes two operating theatres, recovery bays, a diagnostics suite including a static MRI scanner as well as outpatient and physiotherapy departments.

Warden expects the build to take around 12 months and, once complete, the hospital will be operated by Ramsay Health Care UK.

Richard Kenworthy, managing director at Warden Construction, said: “Once complete in summer 2021, we expect this new day case hospital to be of vital benefit and provide an essential high-quality operation which fully meets the needs of the region both now, and during any increased future demands.”

Neil Whittingham, director at WW Medical Facilities, said: “The delivery and success of this project requires a dynamic partnership between health care project professionals and contractors.

“Our decision to award this contract to Warden Construction was based on their knowledge and experience as a design and build contractor in the health sector.”

The project team includes P+HS Architects, WML Consulting, JRB Environmental, Ball & Berry, plus planning consultant ELG Planning.
