Lidl sets stake opposite Flintshire Aldi, Tesco

Chester Road roundabout is due to become grocery central, provided the discount retailer secures permission from the county council to build a 21,200 sq ft store just a few minutes’ walk from its supermarket rivals in the village of Broughton.

British Land Company, which owns the site and the nearby Broughton Shopping Park, has put forward a planning application for the store on three acres of land off the Chester Road roundabout. That same roundabout also provides access to an Aldi and a Tesco Extra.

The proposed 21,200 sq ft Lidl would have a net sales area of 14,500 sq ft. There would be parking bays put in for 138 cars, including nine parent and child spaces, six accessible ones, and two electric vehicle bays. There would also be provision for six cycle racks capable of storing 12 bicycles.

A new access road would link the Lidl to the Broughton Shopping Park, which is home to the Tesco Extra.

The expected turnover for the Lidl is £11.7m by 2031, according to the planning documents. The store also hopes to create 40 full- and part-time jobs.

Carney Sweeney is the planner for the project. The proposal team also includes Urban Edge Architects, TPP Consulting, Sharps Redmore, Weetwood Services, SWF Consulting,  Greengate, Treefellas Arboriculture, and Earth, Environmental, and Geotechnical Consulting.
