Homes England to put 40 acres on market

Spread across three sites in Cumbria and Lancashire, the government’s housing delivery vehicle estimates that the plots have capacity for 287 homes.

Homes England has listed the three sites on its Land Hub platform as going on the market in the next few months. The sites in question are:

  • Land at Harras Moor South in Copeland, a 5.4-acre site with room for 34 homes
  • Land at Lundsfield in Carnforth, a 30.5-acre site with capacity for 250 homes
  • Sewage Works at Whittingham, a 1.3-acre site with space for three homes

Harras Moor has been listed as being targeted towards SME and is due to go to the market this quarter. Outline planning is in place already for the scheme, according to Homes England.

The Lundsfield site is also due to go on the market this quarter, with Homes England marketing the site to members of its delivery partner dynamic purchasing system.

The Seward Works site is being advertised to the market.

Based on the Land Hub, there is only one site currently on the market from Homes England in the North West.

This is the St John’s Church site, which is a half-acre plot of land with a grade two-listed former church on it. A Thomas Lister brochure from 2025 described the site as a “renovation opportunity” and noted its position within the Whittingham Hospital site that is due to be redeveloped into 750 homes.

Homes England owns more than 20,000 acres of land across the country.
