Team named for Hope Uni’s £5m teaching centre
A group of consultants has been appointed to help deliver Liverpool Hope University's Centre of Excellence in Educational Innovation and Enterprise.
The full design team includes Curtins Consulting, to provide structural and civil engineering advice, Halsall Lloyd Architects, Tweeds as quantity surveyor and HE Simms as mechanical engineering consultants.
The £5m, 26,000 sq ft building will replace existing facilities that are due to be demolished and form part of a new entrance to Hope Park in Taggart Avenue, south Liverpool.
John Kelly, lead engineer on the project for Curtins, said: "From a structural engineering point of view, our team will be hit with numerous challenges.
"The fact that we are integrating existing two-storey buildings with a differently designed new-build three storey building is enough of a challenge, but then we are also facing issues such as the mixture of materials, in particular the extensive use of glazing with load-bearing masonry, steel work and the glue laminated timber.
"There is also talk of a roof garden being included in the design, which could pose further challenges for us. But, we have years of experience in the UK education sector and we are confident that as a team we will be able to produce a world class educational facility."
Work is due to start in the summer and be completed ready for autumn 2010.
