PODCAST | Scheming with Jonathan Wilson
Citu’s managing director discusses being admired by his peers and why viability is not an excuse for failing to deliver great places.
In the latest episode of Scheming, Jonathan Wilson takes us from his roots in Yorkshire, over to mainland Europe, and into Africa as he discusses the three projects he thinks about the most.
Scheming is a Place North podcast series that provides some of the biggest names in property the chance to talk about three schemes they think about a lot:
- The one they are most proud of
- The one that got away
- Their dream scheme
Creating places that work for the people who use them, and having fun doing so, is something Wilson and his Citu spend a lot of time thinking about.
That is no more true than at Climate Innovation District in Leeds, a project that provides a welcome departure from the tired, formulaic schemes churned out by volume housebuilders.
“It is our responsibility as developers to push the boundaries break the rules to remake them,” he said.
“We are in a climate emergency and we have a housing crisis. We can either dwell on that or we can take responsibility. I think we are the last generation who can have quite a lot of fun fixing those problems.”
