Summer start for Llandudno Lidl

The discount supermarket chain is to begin construction at the beginning of summer, with a view to opening at the start of 2019.

Lidl’s scheme will see a 25,000 sq ft supermarket built on the site of the former Daily Post and Arriva depot buildings at Llandudno Junction, within a designated ‘office and industrial improvement area’. As part of the scheme, new access will be created into the site, which will bring with it 140 parking spaces – 125 public and 15 staff – along with landscaping.

Represented by planner Pegasus, Lidl won consent for the store from Conwy council in November for the store as it looks to scale up its presence in North Wales. One Design Architectural Services is the scheme’s architect.

The German group started work last year on a new store in Prestatyn and included three North Wales locations in a site requirements brochure issued in April 2017 – Rhyl, Caernarfon and Wrexham Northeast. The same document revealed that Lidl is looking to relocate its stores in Bangor, Colwyn Bay and Pwlheli.
