Plans in for £180m Knauf Insulation factory
The rock mineral wool manufacturer has firmed up its vision for a 200,000 sq ft production facility at Deeside Industrial Park, a project supported by the £1bn North Wales Growth Deal.
Knauf Insulation’s move to Flintshire would bring more than 137 direct jobs to work in its 22,500 sq ft office building, 50,100 sq ft melter, 93,800 sq ft processing plant, and the 63,300 sq ft of existing buildings being kept on the site.
The buildings are all designed by AEW Architects, with the five-storey Melter being the tallest on the 44-acre campus. The project is estimated to cost £180m to deliver, with more than £14m coming from the North Wales Growth Deal.
Landscape proposals across the site include meadows, grassland, and more trees being planted. The office block would have a green roof.
As part of the designs, there would be 126 car parking spaces, including six accessible ones and 14 with EV charging points. There would also be at least 12 covered cycle storage bays.
The project team includes project manager Core, planner WSP, landscape architect Tyler Grange, civil engineer Tier Consult, geotechnical engineer Tier Environmental, highways consultant Eddisons, fire engineer Hoare Lea, and LEED assessor Hilson Moran. Hannan Associates provided advice on M&E, utiltiies, and acoustics.
