Roger Hannah acquires Wilkinson Cowan Partnership

Bolstering the chartered surveyor’s building consultancy capacity and affordable housing expertise, the merger sees Roger Hannah’s staff count surpass 90.

Wilkinson Cowan got its start around the same time as Roger Hannah, with both firms beginning their journey on Greek Street in Stockport nearly 50 years ago.

Offering services as a quantity surveyor and building consultant, Wilkinson Cowan has particularly excelled in the past acting as an employer’s agent and clerk of works for affordable housing projects.

At the time of the acquisition, the company was generating £2.6m, with 19 staff based in Cheadle Hulme and Liverpool.

Together, the two companies turnover more than £12m a year.

“This is a very significant acquisition for Roger Hannah,” said Simon Cook, managing director for the Manchester-based Roger Hannah.

“Not only does it enhance our building consultancy expertise, it also aligns strategically with our development presence across the North West. It allows us to support clients throughout the full lifecycle of development projects.”

He continued: “We see strong synergies between the two firms and clear opportunities to further develop the services we offer to our clients.”

As part of the deal, Wilkinson Cowan’s senior leaders will join the Roger Hannah management team and become shareholders.

Wilkinson Cowan director Ben Dawson said his company was “thrilled” to join Roger Hannah.

“From the outset, it was clear that Roger Hannah shares our values, culture and commitment to clients,” Dawson said.

“This partnership strengthens our ability to deliver the same high-quality service our clients expect, backed by the resources and reach of a larger group.

“We’re really excited about what the future has in store.”

Leonard Curtis Legal and Saffery advised Roger Hannah on the acquisition. Hurst Corporate Finance, Hurst Accountants, and Gorvins supported Wilkinson Cowan.

NatWest’s commercial and corporate banking team also aided in the purchase.

This is the third acquisition in around a year for Roger Hannah, which purchased Strategic Property Management in September and Kelsall Williams last March.
