Salt Ayre adds to offering with padel courts plan

Four covered courts are to be constructed on a four-acre chunk of the Lancaster sports complex, owned by the city council.

Operator Soul Padel has submitted a planning application to build the padel courts on a plot currently used for mini-golf.

The introduction of facilities for the UK’s fastest growing sport will add to Salt Ayre’s sporting offer, which currently includes an athletics track, gym, climbing wall, and swimming pool.

To learn more, search for reference number 26/00275/FUL on Lancaster City Council’s planning portal. Padel Plan, a consultancy that specialises in securing planning consent for padel courts, is advising on the scheme.

Demand for padel, a hybrid of squash and tennis, has spiked in recent years, leading to a wave of applications and venue openings.

Soul Padel, the applicant behind the Salt Ayre proposals, has a site in Stockport and last year lodged plans for another at the University of Salford.

As well as Soul Padel, other operators including Club de Padel, Social Sports Society, and The Padel Club are all fighting for sites.
