Bridgestone bags Gateway 2 nod in Salford
Work can begin in earnest on the £30m Nexus House, a 364-bedspace student living project, following clearance from the Building Safety Regulator.
Bridgestone Construction will deliver the Lissadel Street project, off Frederick Road, on behalf of a joint venture between itself and Rotheo.
Paddock Johnson was the building regulations principal designer, with Tim Groom, structural engineers Thomas Consulting and fire engineering specialists Orian Fire also instrumental.

The regulatory landscape has continued to evolve throughout the design process, and I’d like to thank our consultant team and the Building Safety Regulator for the collaborative way we’ve worked together to successfully navigate those changes.
“The close coordination between Paddock Johnson, Tim Groom, Thomas Consulting, Orian Fire and the wider project team has been instrumental in reaching this milestone. It’s also particularly rewarding to be returning to the Salford University area, building on the strong relationships we’ve established locally and delivering another high-quality student accommodation development.”
Bridgestone said that this will represent a return to the area after the successful completion of a nearby student accommodation scheme two years ago.
The firm added that the project has been shaped through close collaboration with Salford City Council and Salford University’s estates team.
Under the Building Safety Act, multi-storey projects have to undergo rigorous regulatory scrutiny before construction begins, with design, safety and technical information comprehensively reviewed under an enhanced building safety framework. Bridgestone has been attached to this project as contractor from the outset, helping to ease that process.
Planning permission was secured last year for the project, which will be delivered on the former Cumberland House site.
With arrangements to acquire the site now completed in the last few weeks by the development partnership, and Gateway 2 approval secured, Bridgestone will now move towards delivery.
