Preston approves homes at former chemicals site

Prospect Homes has secured reserved matters consent for 113 houses at the former TDG European Chemicals site on Whittingham Road, Longridge.

The 10.9 acre site, west of Longridge, forms part of a wider site with outline consent in place for residential-led mixed use development. The application relates only to the eastern half of the land to the north side of Whittingham Road, a plot that includes both greenfield and brownfield land.

There were previously a series of industrial buildings across part of the site, with the remainder used for agricultural purposes. South and east of the site is bounded by residential development, and is allocated for housing in the Local Plan, whereas to north and west are open fields.

MPSL is the project’s principal designer, with Avison Young engaged as planning consultant and Trevor Bridge Associates as landscape designer. The proposal represents an update on a previously approved reserved matters application, with some changes made to layout. The new plans are for 79 open-market houses and 34 affordable homes.

MPSL’s design and access statement read: “The design and development of the scheme has been through a collaborative process which has allowed for a positive design solution. The layout creates a natural extension of the settlement boundary, whilst respecting the existing character and siting of existing residential properties. The scheme creates much needed high quality family homes, including affordable housing with associated open space.”
