MIPIM 2008: Wirral launches Hoylake golf plans
A planned 333-acre golf course and hotel complex for Hoylake will be officially released on to the development market by Wirral council this week at MIPIM in Cannes.
The council kick-started long-standing plans for the scheme following the success of the 2006 British Open, which attracted more spectators than any other in English history.
The site would house a signature golf course, a private clubhouse, and a five star hotel with restaurant, health, leisure and conference facilities as well as a deluxe spa.
Situated close to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, and stretching across the Birket Valley to the east, the reserved land is already owned by Wirral council.
The site has the approval of the Professional Golfer's Association, along with the organiser of the Open, The Royal & Ancient.
Jim Wilkie, deputy chief executive of Wirral council, said: "The vision is to create a landmark destination for golf and the council is seeking a developer who is committed to delivering a high quality, world class facility with an international reputation. The development of a prestigious golf resort will offer international class sports and hospitality facilities, along with the opportunity to regularly attract a variety of major golf competitions."
Members of the Wirral council team, including Wilkie will be showcasing golf resort plans throughout the week. An exclusive presentation of the plans will be made on the Liverpool stand (R.27.18) on Wednesday afternoon.
