Grind confirms Northern debut at No.1 St Michael’s

Billed as a cult coffee brand, the operator will occupy 3,021 sq ft on the ground floor of Relentless Developments’ Manchester scheme, opening this summer.

Metis Real Estate acted on behalf of the developer, while Distrkt represented the occupier. Kuits Solicitors provided legal advice.

The deal, trailed in December by Place North West, establishes the coffee brand’s first Northern location alongside its portfolio of London-based cafés and coffee trucks.

Known for an all-day offer serving speciality-grade coffee, fresh seasonal food, and cocktails, Grind will join a full roster of F&B operators at the project.

These include Japanese-Peruvian restaurant group, Chotto Matte and Paris-based, Big Mamma Group, which last week announced the impending opening of its Circolo Popolare restaurant.

In October last year, media company Channel 4 also signed a deal for 12,293 sq ft at No.1 St Michael’s, occupying half of floor eight alongside law firm Pinsent Masons.

US-headquartered, publicly-trading company, S&P Global Inc and global computing firm Arm are also inked in for a move to the building, along with law firm Hill Dickinson and serviced office provider, Gilbanks.

In addition to the rooftop restaurant and ground floor F&B offer, a total of nine floors of office space complete No.1 St Michael’s.

Gary Neville, director at Relentless Developments, said: “The ambition for St Michael’s was to create a landmark that will become an economic driver for Manchester and bring together major names in a world-class, sustainable development.

“Attracting brands like Grind who have yet to set foot outside the capital is a massive achievement and testament to how hard we’ve been working to deliver our vision for the scheme and city as a whole.”

David Abrahamovitch, Grind founder & chief executive, said: “We’ve always said that if we were to do a big site outside of London, the first place we would go would be Manchester.

“My wife is Mancunian and her whole family live in Manchester, so I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years and I’ve always thought that a Grind would work well. We’ve looked at various locations over the years, but thanks to Gary and the team at Relentless we think we’ve finally found the perfect home for Grind in St Michael’s, in the heart of Manchester. We cannot wait to get open in the summer! ”

Great to see this scheme attracting restaurants/cafes etc. that only have outlets in the capital. Really shows high quality schemes and placemaking are contributing to Manchester is becoming the UK’s main second city.

Why do they always love Manchester?!

Such a good development this, from the quality of the building to the caliber of the tenants. Hats off to all involved, this really raises the bar in Manchester. I hope Relentless have more planned in the city once this completes.

It’s a coffee shop with 11 outlets in London. Is there something special about what they do? I will get excited when a branch of Harrods opens in Manchester, or we get an Asprey’s.

This is as hoped developing into the quality development it needed to be at this corner of the soon to be reopened Civic quarter. I await with glorious anticipation the completion of this whole area and on that fateful day I will probably have a coffee…and maybe a biscuit or something . TBH that’s about as exciting as life gets these days but I’m looking forward to it.

Elephant, I’m not bothered about Harrods or Asprays I’d be happy with a proper continental style food market.

Anon at 6.14. I agree. I am a little perplexed at why a Coffee Shop with railway station outlets in London, is regarded as such big news. The Great Northern Warehouse is perfect for the continental market you crave.
