Knowsley approves £20m cricket club redevelopment
Breck Homes can move forward with its plans to build 84 residences on the former home of the Huyton Cricket and Bowling Club.
The last official game played on the 6.5-acre cricket ground was in 2012.
In addition to building a series of affordable rent, shared ownership, and rent-to-buy properties, Breck’s plans include renovating the grade two-listed pavilion that has been on the site since 1875 and adding a pond.
The homes will be set off Huyton Lane and will have between one and four bedrooms. Property types include maisonettes, apartments, mews, and semi-detached houses.
The estimated GDV of the project is £20m, according to Breck.
Phil Dolan, managing director for the North West at Breck Homes, said: “Since purchasing the former Huyton Cricket Club in 2024, we have worked with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that our proposed development of high-quality homes and public space is sensitive to the wishes of local people as well as the history of the site – to maximise the benefits for the people of Huyton.
“There’s a real and growing need for affordable housing in Knowsley and we’re pleased that Knowsley Council has recognised how our new community can contribute to transforming the former cricket club site and the wider area, giving local people and families a home they can be proud of.”
Breck is in talks with an affordable housing provider regarding acquiring the site once the project is complete.
Lichfields submitted the planning application for the scheme on Breck’s behalf. The project team includes Townsend Water Engineering, UES, Tree Solutions, and TBA.
