Conlon lands £1.5m contract for Pyramid Park remediation
Bury Council has appointed the contractor to start enabling works on the 7.4-acre brownfield site, which is lined up for more than 100 apartments.
The decision was made at the local authority’s cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Conlon Construction will begin work on Pyramid Park this month, with an eye towards completing remediation in the autumn.
Conlon is no stranger to the site, having been appointed in 2024 for a pre-construction service agreement. Conlon secured this contract through the North West Construction Hub Low Value Construction Framework.
Pyramid Park is the site of the former Knowsley Street railway station, which closed in 1970. The plot is currently owned by the council.
Remediation work is being funded by a £1.7m grant from the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund. The funding was secured in 2023.
Bury is actively seeking a developer to take on the site. The local authority says that the site could hold two apartment blocks and 10 townhouses.
The developer is due to take over the site in March 2027 and submit a planning application for the plot that July. According to tender documents, the developer would have finished its project at Pyramid Park by the end of March 2029.
