FIREM wins consent for 405,000 sq ft Botany Bay scheme

Chorley Council has approved the creation of 33 industrial units on 21 acres around the well-known mill building.

FI Real Estate Management will create 405,000 sq ft of employment space next to Botany Bay, located off Junction 8 of the M61, having revised earlier plans for a 250,000 sq ft retail village.

The development will be delivered by FI Construction, FIREM’s construction division. Work is due to commence in the coming months with a targeted completion date of quarter one of 2024.

“We’ve been based in Chorley for nearly 40 years and we know that companies looking to expand or relocate in Chorley are struggling to find suitable space, which is why this application is so important for the region,” said Tim Knowles, founder and managing director of FIREM.

“Our redevelopment of Botany Bay will deliver a host of new employment and commercial opportunities, serving both local businesses and those that want to make this fantastic borough their home.”

The scheme has been designed by architect MCAU and John Francis Planning is the planning consultant.

Later phases of the project include an additional 300,000 sq ft of logistics space and 288 homes.

Meanwhile, plans for the future of the existing Botany Bay Mill are currently being drawn up.
