Cornbrook resi and hotel scheme submitted

Plans have been lodged with Manchester City Council for Peel and Glenbrook’s hotel and PRS apartment scheme at Cornbrook.

Following public consultation in December, the developers have moved swiftly towards planning, with consultant How lodging a hybrid application. Full consent is sought for the residential element and outline permission, with all matters reserved, for the 154-bedroom hotel and an aparthotel of up to 88 units.

Glenbrook is responsible for the residential scheme, in the PRS market in which it specialises, and intends to deliver 280 apartments across two blocks, designed by Sheppard Robson. Peel’s architect for the hotel/aparthotel scheme is Leach Rhodes Walker.

The application includes demolition of existing buildings on a site that is mostly derelict. The developers will make a contribution to improving access to the Cornbrook Metrolink station.

Should planning be secured, the intention is for construction to begin in this summer, with construction workers moving over from Glenbrook’s Trilogy site at Ellesmere Street as that project reaches completion.

Glenbrook’s residential blocks are at the Trentham Street side of the scheme and will include retail at ground floor, likely to be a convenience store. Peel’s part of the site is at the junction of Cornbrook Road and Bridgewater Way as it becomes Dinton Street.

The professional team includes Atkins, daylight consultant GIA, structural engineer Shepherd Gilmour, Oxford Archaeology and Beachfield Consulting Engineers.
